Cycling route Bratislava - Devín - Devínska Nová Ves - along the banks of the Danube towards history
This cycling route is a great way to spend the day actively, even with less experienced cyclists or children, and to discover the beauty of the Bratislava area. The route ends at Devín Castle, or we recommend extending it to the Freedom Cycling Bridge. Devín Castle is one of the oldest castles in Central Europe. The castle offers a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape and the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers.
Basic information about the cycling route Bratislava - Devínska Nová Ves:
- Route length:Approximately 12 km (to Devín) – 17 km (one way)
- Difficulty:Easy, suitable for families with children. Part of the route between the Waterworks Museum and Devín runs along the roadside, which can be busy during peak hours.
- Surface: Asphalt, concrete, short transfer on a paved road
From the Velocity store, head through Mlynská dolina to the Lafranconi Bridge. From under the bridge, take an inconspicuous unpaved path along the Danube. The unpaved section lasts only about 200 meters.
After overcoming it, you will reach the bay of Karlova Ves, where you can rest, refresh, and enjoy a beautiful view of the Danube. The cycling path continues along the river, passing through beautiful natural scenery. It is worth making a stop at the park near the Waterworks Museum. You can refill your drinking water, sit in the shade, or let the kids play at the playground.
The route then continues along Devínska Road. This section is slightly undulating but still very pleasant to ride. You need to be extra careful because this road, which you share with cars, can be busy during peak hours.
After a flat ride, you will reach the village of Devín. The main attraction is undoubtedly Devín Castle, which stands on a hill above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. On the bank of the confluence, you will find memorials to the end of the Iron Curtain, the Gate of Freedom, or an educational trail through the Morava floodplain. You can refresh yourself under Devín Castle. If you like animals, we recommend visiting the nearby Falconry and Minizoo Devín.
If you still have energy, you can continue from under Devín Castle. The cycling path leads directly along the Morava River, along the old border road from the Iron Curtain era. You will be charmed by the floodplain forests around the Morava River. The surface of the cycling route is quite bumpy, but as you approach Devínska Nová Ves, new asphalt has been laid, and it runs alongside the main road.
It's only about 3 kilometers to Devínska Nová Ves. The cycling route will take you to the intersection under the Freedom Cycling Bridge. Here you will find another snack bar and a playground, or a bit further, the unique outdoor sculpture gallery, Šrotpark.
You can return to Bratislava via the same route, or cross the Freedom Cycling Bridge to the other bank of the Danube and return via a detour through Hainburg. Easy way how to enjoy both routes is to rent a bicycle from our rental online.
